'Tis the season for my very favorite things. Marshmallow-topped hot cocoa, ice skating traditions, holiday music playing as I relax by the fire--it's definitely the most wonderful time of the year. Along with all the holiday decorations, music and treats, one thing comes to my mind: giving gifts. But sometimes I feel like giving non-material gifts may actually be better than giving the run-of-the-mill things. So, here are three simple ways you can partake in the most wonderful time of the year, and the season of giving, in completely free and heartfelt ways.
1. VOLUNTEER: Volunteering is an incredibly rewarding experience. Not only can you help others in need in some way, whether it be at your local soup kitchen or volunteering for your favorite charity, you can also spread love and cheer this holiday season.
2. PLAN AN EXPERIENCE: Instead of buying tons of expensive gifts, plan an experience for someone you love. For an art-lover, take them to a free art museum. For a child, take them on an adventure for the day to different places around your city. For a friend of yours that has kids, offer to babysit for them. This way you can give them a great experience without a crazy price tag. I promise you they will love it.
3. COUPONS: Remember when you were little and you made your mom coupons for a "Free Hug"? Although this may sound a little cliché, people really enjoy coupons for "free" things. Make a coupon for a week of doing all the chores, or a night where you make someone dinner. This will not only show them that you want to devote your time to them, but will give them a heartfelt gift from you as well.
