I spent my days pouring over clothes and accessories, weaving my way in and out of different villages in search of the most up and coming fashion pieces. As I opened my Michael Kors blood-orange wristlet to once again drag out my debit card, I couldn't help but not regret a single purchase. Each purchase I made was well thought out and purchased for a specific reason. This is how I shop.

I personally feel like quite a few people waste their money shopping because they just mindlessly buy clothing and shoes instead of really thinking through the purchase. As a fashion-obsessed shopping lover, today I will disclose to you the secret of my successful shopping.

First, and foremost, have an idea of what you want before you shop. I always keep my eyes open--fashion on the streets, fashion in magazines, fashion on Pinterest--fashion is ALL OVER, all you have to do is look for it. If you get a solid idea in your head of what you want then you'll forego the mindless buying of merchandise you don't really need. Even doing as much so as writing down the few items that you want can help keep your mind set. When I shop, I normally have one to three specific items in mind, instead of just searching through racks and grabbing whatever I think looks cute.

In order to keep expenses down, but remain in style, I live by one major rule. I buy trendier clothing that is very "in the moment" and may be out of style in a few years at more affordable stores like Forever 21 or Target. I will buy classic clothing pieces (like jeans or my work clothes), instead, at a pricier places. Classic clothes tend to never really go "out of style" so it's okay to spend a little more money on them.

Never, ever buy something ONLY because it is on sale. I struggle with this rule almost every time I go shopping. Just because something says 40% somehow makes it more appealing, but don't fall for it. If you wouldn't want it when it's full-price, then DO NOT buy it on a discount.

One of the most important rules that I live by is QUALITY over QUANTITY. It is so much better to have less clothes that are of better quality than more clothes of lesser quality. Keep this rule in mind ALWAYS when you are shopping and you will spend less money.

Finally, right before you buy something ask yourself if you'll regret it if you DON'T buy it. If so, then drag out that debit card and swipe. Never buy something that you think you could go without. These are the rules I live by and swear by every single time I go shopping. As crazy at it is, I can promise you that keeping these rules at the back of your mind will help you not only save money, but keep your closet up-to-date, fashionable and the envy of all your friends.
