Troy Gentry Given A Moving Tribute

A celebration of life for Troy Gentry was held this yesterday at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.

On the stage was his white flower-draped casket, a guitar, an American flag and his beloved Batman costume. Those who spoke at the service wore ties and pocket handkerchiefs with the Batman signal in a nod to Troy's love of the comic book hero.

Little Big Town opened the service with a beautiful version of the national anthem, followed by a performance of "My Old Kentucky Home" by Halfway to Hazzard. Trace Adkins sang "Wayfaring Stranger," Elvis impersonator Cody Ray Slaughter performed "Kentucky Rain" -- one of Troy's Favorite songs -- and Charlie Daniels did a moving version of "How Great Thou Art." Vince Gill sang the song Troy first sang to his wife, Angie, "Whenever You Come Around." The ceremony concluded with a recording of "Better Me" from Montgomery Gentry's new unreleased album.

Family and friends gathered Wednesday for a private service at Brentwood Baptist Church, where Troy and his family worshiped.
