According to a new study, dogs might understand you better than you think.
Researchers compared the brain functions of dogs and humans and found that dogs have "voice areas" in their brains located in the same region as humans.
And in both dogs and humans, this part of the brain is able to understand how our voice tones express our different emotions.
The scientists actually scanned the brains of 11 dogs with an MRI scanner while they listened to almost 200 dog and human sounds, such as whining, crying, happy barks, and laughing.
Sure enough … Both dog and human brains lit up in the voice area when they heard the sounds.
