It's a little difficult to sell the, "I'm just too busy" excuse to get out of something you don't want to do. So how do you get out of a virtual happy hour?
Lots of us are having get-togethers, happy hours and even dates over Zoom and other video-conferencing platforms, and it seems this has created a new dilemma … how to get out of those Zoom plans. Much the same as getting out of “regular” plans the key is not to come up with some elaborate excuse or lie. You just simply say you can’t make it -- and leave it at that. Etiquette expert Lizzie Post, great-great-granddaughter of Emily Post says, “From an etiquette standpoint, you don’t have to give a reason [for declining]. You can simply say no. Do it politely, but you don’t have to give anything beyond, ‘Sorry, won’t be able to make it.’ You can say you don’t feel up to it if you want, but that’s a reason.”
