If you often find people gathered around other people at a party, it's not necessarily because you're not interesting. It's because people at the party don't know it yet.
According to Michael Schwantes in this INC article, you need to show a genuine interest in other people. But not just think it. So how can you do that?
- Be curious about other people and show that you are interested in them by asking good follow-up questions.
- Be a good listener. When you are an active listener, it triggers the other person's part of the brain that enjoys money and food.
- Avoid small talk and ask interesting questions. One bold suggestion they have it to ask what's on their bucket list. And then a good follow-up would be how you can help them achieve it. That will instantly make them more interested in you.
