Fruit Stripe Gum Is Going Away!

As a kid I loved Big League Chew, Hubba-Bubba and of course Fruit Stripe Gum!

They swiped our stripes! There's one less classic sweet on the shelves, now that the makers of Fruit Stripe gum have decided to retire the chewy treat for good. Fruit Stripe was introduced in the 1960s by the Beech-Nut company, which mostly makes baby and toddler food. The gum came in five flavors – Wet n’ Wild Melon, Cherry, Lemon, Orange, and Peach – and featured zebra stripes printed right on each stick. Ferrara Candy Company, which owns the brand now, blamed low demand for the cancellation, but John Finn, creator of the @snack_memories Twitter account, says he'll miss it. "In a weird way, that mediocre, neon, sugary gum really captures childhood for multiple generations, in a way that is hard to articulate," he said.
