This has to be one of the best traditions in all of sports. The Hershey Bears started the Teddy Bear toss in 1993 as a way to help the community and has morphed into a great tradition. Not only do people pay to get into the game they pay to bring these stuffed animals as well. These people PAY to be charitable and to make an impact on children. How awesome.
(SI) - The Bears say the bears will be donated to 30 different local organizationsfor distribution to needy kids. In addition to the toys, the night also produced tens of thousands of dollars in monetary donations. Pennsylvania charity CommunityAid had pledged to donate 50 cents per stuffed animal thrown (up to $15,000) and an anonymous season ticket holder pledged $1 per stuffed animal.
