The Minnesota Vikings are reportedly "closing in on a deal" with two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and will sign him once he's officially released by the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday (March 12), sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero on Tuesday (March 11).
"The #Vikings aren’t done: They’re also closing in on a deal with two-time Pro Bowl DT Javon Hargrave and plan to sign him after his release from the #49ers is official Wednesday, sources say. So Jonathan Allen heads to Minnesota and now another huge D-line move in the works," Pelissero wrote on his X account.
The Vikings have already made several key free agency moves which included agreeing to terms with fellow defensive tackle Jonathan Allen on a three-year, $60 million, as well as center Ryan Kelly on a two-year, $18 million deal and guard Will Fries on a five-year, $88 million deal. Hargrave, 32, spent the past two seasons with the 49ers as part of a four-year, $84 million deal signed 2023, which included making a Pro Bowl during his first season with the franchise, but also suffering a season-ending right triceps tear three games into the 2024 season.
The Niners informed Hargrave of their intention to release him on March 6. The former South Carolina State standout also had stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers (2016-2019) and Philadelphia Eagles (2020-2022), which included making his first of two Pro Bowl appearances in 2021.
