I'm guessing that most of this is based on smell. My black lab is an incredible ball retriever. And the other day when she dropped her ball on our walk, I carefully picked it up and stuck it in my pocket. She could tell that it was there.

The dog is doing the same thing in each video but the second is for the people that thought the video was fake.
