I remember having a Mr. Potato Head as a kid. You have the big plastic potato body with a compartment where the butt was to store the pieces for it. It was a simple toy that every kid seem to have. It's crazy to think that Mr. Potato Head has only been around for 69 years.
A year before it's 70th anniversary, the iconic toy is changing. Today, Hasbro has announced that Mr. Potato Head will no longer be a mister and instead will be gender neutral, according to AP News. The name for the classic toy will just be called, "Potato Head," and the name change will appear on boxes later this year.
The editor in chief at a toy review site called The Toy Insider told AP News, "it's just a potato. But kids like to see themselves in the toys they are playing with. Dropping the "Mr." from it's name could encourage other companies to not assign genders to its toys, a trend that is already happening."
