Medina Spirit Trainer's Craziest Reason For Positive Test After Derby

BOB BAFFERT is the trainer for Medina Spirit . . . the Kentucky Derby-winning horse who failed a drug test. Baffert insists that no one gave Medina Spirit anything illegal, and he has NO SHORTAGE of excuses for why the horse failed its test. And one is wild . . .

Baffert said one of the testing issues was created by a "groom," which is a person who handles day-to-day work inside stalls. Apparently, one of them PEED in Medina Spirit's stall . . . after taking cough medicine . . . and the horse ate some of the contaminated hay, which then led to the positive test.

Baffert has blamed grooms before. Just last year, two of his horses tested positive for a banned substance. And he claimed that grooms used a lidocaine cream on their hands before handling the horses and the horses somehow ingested it.
