Christmas Decorations - Here's An Expert's Tips!

If you are looking to WOW this holiday season with your Christmas Decor, here are some tips!

Interior designer Mark Eliason shares the best and easiest ways to update traditional holiday decor.

  • The best way to wrap Christmas lights around the tree - Eliason recommends using about 100 bulbs for every two feet of tree. So for a six-foot tree, you’ll need 300 bulbs. Use the plug as the starting point and wrap the lights around the tree’s trunk, working up from the center of the base. Continue wrapping the lights evenly around branches closest to the trunk, then weave them up from the middle and when you get to the top, start weaving the lights back down.
  • Tree looking naked? - If your tree is sparse, the designer says, “You can’t go wrong with lots and lots of lights. Tree picks or floral sprays are decorated branches of twigs, berries, balls or leaves you can use to fill in empty spaces.
  • Color trends for 2022 - Think beyond the traditional red, green and white Christmas colors this year and go vibrant with hot pink, lime green, aquamarine blue, sunshine yellow and bright purple. Also trending are combos of emerald green and gold or rich blue and gold.
  • Velvet ornaments and figurines - Luxury fabrics are in this year and velvet ornaments, reindeer figurines and ribbons can add texture to your existing decor.
  • Try metallics - For his own tree, Eliason uses metallic ornaments and ribbons in shades of rose gold, gun metal, pewter, onyx and brass. He suggests using multiple shades of metallic to create “elegance, richness and sparkle.”
  • Tabletop decorations - Figurines with a Scandinavian feel, like simple glass cone-shaped trees in various sizes, colors and finishes look great as a centerpiece, on a bookshelf or coffee table.
  • Use what you love - You don’t have to follow trends, you can use the treasured decorations you’ve collected over the years or whatever styles or colors brings you joy.
