Joey Chestnut has been banned from Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest but he's got an even bigger matchup lined up.
Chestnut will take on rival Takeru Kobayashi in a live hot dog-eating contest on Netflix on Labor Day. Variety says the location for the September 2nd event, titled Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef, will be announced at a later date.
Chestnut says, “Through all of my years in competitive eating, Kobayashi stands out as my fiercest rival. Competing against him pushed me to be so much better. I know that fans have waited a long time for another chapter of our rivalry and I can’t wait for our massive showdown live on Netflix! It’s time to give the people what they want!”
This comes only a day after Chestnut was ousted from Coney Island’s iconic Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest because he signed a deal with vegan hot dog brand Impossible Foods.
Chestnut is a 16-time champion at Nathan’s Fourth of July contest with the world record of 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Kobayashi is a six-time Nathan’s champ. They last faced each other in 2009, with Chestnut winning the contest.
