The Perils Of Getting Sauced In The Sun

It’s Spring Break, and if you’re headed somewhere warm, here’s a warning: drinking in the sun could make your sunburn worse.

study from Florida Atlantic University found that people who drink alcohol while sunbathing are more prone to sunburns. Why? Because alcohol can impair your judgment, making you less likely to reapply sunscreen and more likely to stay out in the sun longer or even fall asleep in the sun.

So, what’s the big deal? Well, the more sunburns you get, the higher your risk of developing skin cancer. In fact, according to dermatologists, getting just five bad sunburns between the ages of 15 and 20 can boost your risk of developing melanoma by 80%.

So, if you’re gonna beach and booze, drink responsibly and be sure to slather on that sunscreen. Your skin will thank you.
