According to City Pages, Alexander Ramsey Middle School is looking to change their name! It appears that the second governor of Minnesota, who the school is named after, believed "The Sioux Indians of Minnesota must be exterminated or driven forever beyond the borders of the state."
SO, they are looking at 5 possible new names for the school!
- Prince Rogers Nelson: Internation and Minnesota born music icon
- Alan Page: Vikings great/Pro Football Hall of Famer turned Minnesota Supreme Court justice
- Dorothy Vaughan: Pioneering African-American mathematician for NASA (portrayed by Octavia Spencer in 2016 film Hidden Figures)
- Martha Ripley: Minnesota-born physician who championed equal rights for women and children at her Ripley Memorial Hospital
- Bde Ota: Dakota-language word for Minneapolis ("many lakes")
