Waitress Runs Off With Winning Lottery Ticket After Promising to Split It

According to ABC 13:

Waitress Leslie Underwood claims her co-worker, Mandy Vanhouten, has taken off with her half of a $300,000 lottery jackpot.

Underwood says the owner of the restaurant where she works bought a roll of scratch-offs for his waitresses."He told us whatever we won, it would be split between us for our Christmas bonus," Underwood said. She and Vanhouten scratched off the pile together." She says Vanhouten scratched off a $300,000 fortune ticket, worth $10, and won the top prize.

Since they work the same shift, she and Underwood would each get $150,000. Underwood says they were both going to claim the money together in the new year and even talked about how they would spend it. That is, until, Underwood saw a picture of Vanhouten with the check on Wednesday. The moment was especially emotional for Underwood who says the two have been best friends for nearly a decade." I helped her get the job, put in a good word, stuck my neck out for her, let her stay with me so she didn't have to drive back and forth," Underwood said. Underwood says she hasn't heard from Vanhouten.

If she doesn't get her share of the winnings, she plans to take legal action. However, Vanhouten is the only one who signed the back of the ticket.
