Darius Rucker Remembers An Experience That Made Him Believe In Ghosts

Darius Rucker is getting into the “spooky szn” spirit by reflecting on his best ghost story. The country megastar joined Kelly Clarkson on her talk show on Monday (October 23), and shared the epic throwback story with Halloween around the corner.

Clarkson count resist asking the Carolyn’s Boy artist whether he believes in the supernatural, after the pair mentioned Halloween. The original American Idol alum said “I don’t not believe,” though she’s never had “a real experience” with a ghost.

Rucker, however, knew exactly which story to tell.

“I was in college, and we — me and Dean (Felber), who played bass with (Hootie & the Blowfish) — we moved in this place, and we each got a bunch of beds from my house that were around, and I had my grandmother’s bed. My grandmother died, and I wake up one morning, 3 o’clock in the morning, and I look on the edge of my bed. My grandmother’s sitting there, and she’s sitting there, and I sit up and I wipe my eyes and I go, ‘wow.’ And she’s still sitting there, and I get up and I run out of my bed, and I run to Dean’s room and I was like, ‘Dean! My grandmother’s ghost is in my room. Can I sleep in your bed?’ He went, ‘no!’ No. I went on the couch.”

“It’s scary a little,” Rucker said when Clarkson asked whether it was scary (and acknowledged that it was “kind of cool” and she “would like to see a ghost”). “But I believe in something.”
