Are you a big fan of tracking numbers? If you find yourself checking on your package every five minutes after ordering something online, you’re not alone – and there’s a reason why.

According to psychotherapist Owen O’Kane, things like packages, dinner reservations and hair appointments give us something to look forward to when we’re feeling down. Especially during the pandemic, it’s important to stay positive, and ordering things online is basically retail therapy. Plus, next-day shipping means we’re even more disappointed when packages come late!

But there’s a way to be less dependent on online shopping. Sure, it’s a good distraction from bigger problems, but it’s only a temporary fix. O’Kane suggests you look inward when you feel the urge to order and track something online, like asking why exactly you need or want that thing right now…and whether it’s really necessary.
