Even if you’re very disciplined and follow a healthy lifestyle most of the time, you probably still like to indulge in a cheeseburger every now and then. We all have bad habits, whether it’s biting your nails or staying up late watching shows instead of going to sleep. We know these things aren’t great for our health, but we do them anyway.
And it turns out, some bad habits can really drain your bank account over time. Here’s what some of them can cost you:
- Nicotine - Cigarettes are ridiculously expensive these days, with a pack ranging from about $6 to $12. People who smoke one pack a day could spend more than $4-thousand a year on them. Those who vape instead are still probably spending more than $2,000 on it every year.
- Alcohol - If you buy a 30-pack of Keystone Lite every month for just $15 and only drink one a night, that’s only $200 a year, but who’s doing that? Most people are going out for drinks and shelling out for $20 cocktails, which can add up to anywhere from $68,000 to more than $120,000 over their lifetime, depending on where they live.
- Fast food - Many of us enjoy a slice of pizza or a burrito now and then, but eating fast food all the time isn’t just bad for your health, it’s really costly. Some people spend between $2,400 and $10,000 on fast food every year.
- Beverages - Americans drink an average of between 40 and 50 gallons of soda every year, which adds up to an annual cost of $350. And those who drink fancy coffee drinks may spend more than $1,000 a year on them.
- Gambling - Estimates show the average casino patron loses more than $600 a year, while someone with a serious gambling addiction may lose as much as $90,000 every year.
