Job interviews can be daunting. We all know preparation is key, but how are you supposed to know what they are going to ask you in advance? The good news is that there are some common interview questions that are almost guaranteed to be asked. Which ones? Here they are, and here’s how experts say you should answer them.
- “Why do you want to work here?” You should research the company beforehand and see if there are any details like its mission, goals, or recent news that resonate with you. Finding a personal connection and answering with that will show that you did your homework and that you are passionate about the role.
- “Tell me about yourself.” As great as all your experience is, you don’t want this answer to be long-winded. Have a concise elevator pitch about your strengths, experiences, and enthusiasm ready to go to answer this question. Tailor it to the specific job. Also, try and tell the hiring manager about something your resume or application wouldn’t tell them.
- “What are your strengths and weaknesses?” Don’t just rattle off what you’re strong at – support them with examples, too. When it comes to weaknesses, you’re going to want to share one that doesn’t affect your ability to do the job you’re interviewing for. For weakness, you should spend 10% of your answer talking about the weakness and the other 90% talking about how you’re actively working on improving that weakness.
