George Birge & His Wife Kara Share College Love Story

George Birge is about to have his second song to country radio "Cowboy Songs" go number 1. He stopped by the Bobby Bones Show with his wife Kara to talk about his career, and their love story.

Birge said his wife Kara has always been very supportive of him chasing his dreams. It was really hard on him during the beginning of his career when he hadn't "made it" yet and she was working hard at real estate while raising young kids. However, he said she was always wonderful during those phases and never gave him a hard time for chasing his dream to do music. He admitted he struggled with not being able to provide for his family in the early phases, so it feels really good now. The two of them met when they were 18-years-old in college at a costume party. She was dressed in a cute 80s dress and he was a smurf, totally painted blue and in a diaper. He was a pledge and they made all of the pledges dress in funny costumes. Their actual first date was after they hung out at one of the fraternity parties and he took her to eat at Jack in the Box. She got chicken tenders and queso and that's when he knew he was going to love her forever. The two of them dated their entire college careers and never broke up.

At this year's CMAs, Birge said it was really special for them to attend the red carpet and the show. Bobby Bones shared a story where he was with Birge and Birge was bragging about how good his wife was going to look in her CMAs dress. Turns out, Kara had sent Birge a few options and he helped pick which one. Kara said it was really fun watching him interview on the carpet because he has such genuine connections and a great interview style. She loves seeing him "belong" in those environments. At one point int he evening, they were standing in line in front of Cody Johnson and his wife to take photos. While waiting, Kara had made best friends with Cody's wife and he was so excited for her.

Birge admits he still has a lot of "hard to believe" feelings like doing headlining shows. While he's excited to be at this point, he still has anxiety all day until walking in and actually seeing people show up to his shows. Kara said Birge typically doesn't get anxious, he usually flies by the seat of his pants and likes to pack very last minute for all of his trips. Everything really kicked off for Birge when he dropped the song "Beer Beer, Truck Truck" as a rebuttal to someone on TikTok. Clay Walker actually encouraged Birge to start making videos on TikTok and one of the first videos Birge saw as a girl complaining about country songs. So Birge wrote this song as a rebuttal to her video and it went viral. That moment and song got him a record deal. He ended up reaching out to the girl who prompted the song and asked if she would be a songwriter on it since she contributed to it. Turns out she was an elementary school music teacher in North Carolina and she grew up listening to country music, however she had gotten away from it because of the stereotypical subject of a lot of country songs. Now she loves it again though because she's getting royalty checks for that song.

Bobby asked Kara to share the 3 things she loves about Birge and the 3 things she finds most annoying. She loves that he doesn't let fear stop him, he's very loving, and he's encouraging. The things she finds annoying are that he loves to throw his cowboys all around the house, he doesn't know where a single thing is located in their home, and sometimes they will be ready to go (and running late) and at the last minute he thinks he needs to iron his shirt or something.
