When I was a kid, I remember riding my bike, skateboarding and rollerblading with my friends around the neighborhood. Not once did we think of wearing a helmet because that seemed "nerdy" at the time. We wanted to be the cool kids in the neighborhood, and we thought we were indestructible, aka - no need for protecting our noggins. If our local police department had done something like this, you bet we would've made helmets the cool thing way back then.
The Osseo Police Department posted on their twitter, "We are on the lookout for kids wearing their helmets while riding their bikes, skateboards, scooters, etc. If we catch you, you WILL get a ticket for free ice cream at Dairy Queen. What's not to like about that!?!"
As a close neighbor of Osseo, I'm happy to see this police department rewarding kids for being safe. I'm wondering if this is also applicable for adults...because if it does you'll catch me in the Osseo/Maple Grove area always wearing my helmet, even if I'm driving my car.
