MLB Announces That June 2nd Will Forever Be Known As Lou Gehrig Day

On July 4, 1939 New York Yankee Lou Gehrig delivered a farewell speech and uttered the famous words, "Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth." Gehrig would pass away from ALS on June 2, 1941. I've participated in it, and I'm sure you have too in what is known as the 'ALS Ice Bucket Challenge' where you dump a bucket of ice water over yourself and make a donation at als.org.

Earlier today, Major League Baseball announced that June 2nd will forever be known as Lou Gehrig Day! In their post on social media, MLB said that "June 2nd will be a day we will celebrate the legacy of Lou Gehrig and honor those we've lost to ALS. Together, we will help in the fight against this disease."
