A mint 1952 Mickey Mantle card is expected to set a new record for sports cards when an auction for it wraps up on August 27th, according to the Washington Post. Bids are already over $6 million -- and Heritage Auctions is expecting the bidding to reach close to $10 million.
The current record for a card is a T206 Honus Wagner, which sold for $7.25 million. This Mantle card bidding is expected to go higher because it comes with a letter by Alan Rosen, a card dealer nicknamed “Mr. Mint,” stating that it was the highest quality card to exist. Rosen sold the card to Anthony Giordano in 1991 for $50,000.
