Why You Shouldn't Tie Ribbons On Your Luggage Handle

When traveling, some people tie a colored ribbon around the handle of the suitcase or put some other kind of marking or sticker on it to distinguish their luggage from the others. Believe it or not, you may actually be doing yourself more of a disservice by doing that. A baggage handler at the airport in Dublin, Ireland, says you should stop tying ribbons and putting stickers on your luggage. He explains that when luggage is placed through the security scanners, the extra markings on the bags actually throw off the scanners, and that means the bags have to then be checked manually, which means there's the possibility your luggage may not make it onto the plane.
